Vacuum Forming vs Thermoforming: How to Choose the Right Process
In the blister packaging industry, vacuum forming and thermoforming are the two most commonly used processes. While similar, they differ significantly in technical principles, applications, and output quality.
Vacuum Forming
Vacuum forming heats plastic sheets to softening point, then uses vacuum to draw material onto the mold surface. Ideal for small to medium batches with relatively simple shapes.
Thermoforming
Thermoforming includes pressure forming and negative pressure forming, handling more complex geometries with higher precision and finer details.
How to Choose
- Simple shapes, small batches → Vacuum Forming
- Complex shapes, high precision → Pressure Thermoforming
- Mass production → Automated Thermoforming Line
